Topping out ceremony held at TAMUT

New building nears completion

TEXARKANA, Texas - Texas A&M University of Texarkana hosts a topping out ceremony for the construction of the Academic and Student Services building.

This event takes place when the last beam is placed atop a structure nearing completion.

TAMUT President Emily Cutrer says,"for the construction company this is a huge moment, for us it's an absolutely tremendous moment, good time for the community to come together."

Nursing student Amy Myles says she looks forward to its completion. She adds,"I'm excited for it, I am. I know this is a great campus and it's just gonna get even better."

Cutrer believes that the growth of the University will add to the growth of Texarkana.

She adds, "people are coming here because they like Texarkana and they're staying here and they will add to our population. And they'll add to our workforce and they really will add to the leadership capacity of this wonderful city."

The construction company was unable to place the final beam on top of the building because of rain and lightning.

Officials say the building should be complete by next fall and open to the public Spring 2019
