Traffic stop on I-20 lands alleged bank robber behind bars

SHREVEPORT, La. - A Shreveport man wanted in connection with multiple bank robberies is now in police custody following a traffic stop on Interstate-20.
 
Shortly after 11:15 a.m. Tuesday police responded to an armed robbery were called to the Bancorp South bank in the 1200 block of North Market St.

Officers learned that a suspect armed with a handgun entered the business and demanded cash from one of the tellers.

The suspect ran out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and drove away in a silver colored Volvo sedan.

A short while later officers conducted a traffic stop after the suspect was spotted traveling on I-20 past Monkhouse Dr.

The driver was identified as 43-year-old Shahryar Russell of Shreveport. 

Russell was arrested and booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a single count of Armed Robbery with a Firearm.

Investigators also learned that Russell was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant through the Dallas FBI office for a bank robbery in their jurisdiction.
