Friday night shootings leave two dead, one injured; suspects at large

PANOLA COUNTY, Texas - Two are dead, and one is at University Hospital in Shreveport after a Friday night shooting in Panola County.

According to the Panola County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a shots fired call on a private road near County Road 334 between Panola and Bethany around 8:45 p.m. Friday.

The person who called 911 and reported the incident said he believed the suspects were still inside the mobile home where the shooting took place.

When deputies arrived, they discovered two people lying on the ground in front of the mobile home, according to a press release from the PCSO.

A third officer arrived and covered the door and windows of the house, while the other two deputies dragged moved the victims out of the potential line of fire, the release stated.

First responding medical personnel immediately responded, but were advised not to come into the scene until the house could be searched to ascertain there were no shooters inside.

During the course of that search, deputies found the body of a white male lying face down in the living room with at least two gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel were then allowed on the scene and determined one of the victims outside was alive, but the other was deceased.  The surviving victim was airlifted to University Health, where he underwent surgery.

In the course of the investigation, numerous shell casings were discovered on the ground outside the mobile home.

A passing motorist reported he saw three black males leaving the driveway of the mobile home in a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Nissan.

Investigators processed the scene and hope to interview the surviving victim when he is able to respond, in order to get a description of the shooters.

The identity of the deceased individuals and the surviving victim are being withheld pending proper notification of next of kin.
