West Monroe man sentenced for receving child porn

MONROE, La. - A West Monroe man finds out how much time he will spend behind bars for receiving child pornography.

Acting U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced that 30-year-old John D. Owen, was sentenced to 151 months in prison by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. on one count of receiving child pornography.

Owen was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised release and is required to register as a sex offender.

According to the June 1, 2017 guilty plea, law enforcement agents identified Owen as possessing child pornography.

Agents conducted a search of his home on Sept. 22, 2016 and found five videos of child pornography on his cell phone and 38 images of child pornography on a computer.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a U.S. Department of Justice nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
