Shreveport, La. - UPDATE:
Police have arrested a Shreveport woman for her alleged role In the kidnapping of a four-year-old boy.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Monday officers were called to a home in the 2800 block of Essex St. relative to reports that a four year old child went missing after the parent of the child left the home momentarily and ventured to a neighboring home.
As officers arrived at the home, it was learned that the child was missing and could not be located anywhere inside the residence.
A coordinated search of the surrounding area was conducted by a group of patrol officers, Shreveport Fire Department officials equipped with specially trained dogs, and even private citizens, all met with negative results.
As investigators expanded their search efforts well into the night and early morning, it was learned just after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday that the child was located at a home in the 2800 block of Valley Ridge Road, a few blocks away.
Upon learning of the child’s recovery, authorities set out to determine how the child came to be at the Valley Ridge home. Subsequent information revealed that 56 year old Sallie Mae Small drove past the child’s home on Essex Street, and apparently took custody of the child as he stood outside his home.
Small, who is not related to the child, was contacted by a family member Tuesday morning via phone, at which time Small advised that she was in custody of the child, and had been since Monday evening. The child was safely reunited with his father after he arrived at Small’s home to retrieve his son.
Investigators arrived back at the scene and took Small into custody and transported her to Shreveport Police headquarters for interviews with detectives.
Following subsequent interviews, Small was charged with a single count of Simple Kidnapping and booked into the Shreveport City Jail. There are no other charges pending.
A Shreveport woman as been arrested for her role in 4-year-old Shawn Williams disappearance. Sallie Mae Small 56, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of simple kidnapping. Police say Small is not related to Williams. Her home on Valley Ridge Road is located behind the home of the toddler.
The child was found this morning around 7 am and he was safe and unharmed.
