Youree Drive businesses closing but the Chamber of Commerce says new tenants aren't far behind

Shreveport, La - Driving in the Youree shopping corridor you might notice the "for lease" signs and locked doors on now vacant storefronts.

TGI Fridays closed Wednesday only leaving only a note on the door. Boneheads also shut down and Smashburger closed up shop on Youree drive.

Erin Smith, Director of Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations for the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce said they all had different reasons for closing but a lot of properties have already been rented.

Smith said "Macaroni Grille closed, Walk-ons moved in. So we're seeing some revitalization. A lot of the restaurants that are opening are local and you know local fair local food."

But while local sourced restaurants are on the rise... it's a different story for furniture and home goods.

Guy Williamson, Co-owner of Designer's Showroom at East 70th and Youree Drive said "We have seen the industry change quite a bit [you] used to find furniture all made in the United States and a lot of its been going overseas."

Guy Williamson's family has run the Designer's Showroom for 60 years but trying to keep up with internet sales and box stores has run them out of business.

While the restaurant and furniture business are very different, the quick moving real estate is the same.

Williamson said "This location is a hot location and we've had several calls on it and we're expecting an offer next week."

Current or prospective businesses can contact the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce for help and guidance.

Designer's Showroom is currently selling it's entire stock at discount rates.
