The Bossier National All Stars found themselves in a nice position. First place at districts means a trip to the state tournament in Lake Charles.
“The strength of our team is from one through twelve, they're all good ball players,” said Head Coach Jamey McPherson.
Four different area high schools are represented on the team made up of primarily 14 year olds. This tournament provides the perfect transition into high school ball.
“I really wanted to get to the state tournament for this competition. We're going to run into some really good teams with really good players. It's going to be a great experience for them,” said Coach McPherson.
“Really excited to go down there and play with my team. We have the best team. We haven't been to State with this All Star team for a quite a while, so I'm really excited about that,” said Bossier Little League pitcher Nick Elliott.
The double elimination tournament starts this Friday against Lake Charles South. Even though it's basically playing a home team, they're ready.
“None of us are nervous so it's not like we're going to go in there and get frozen, sit up there and do nothing. We're going to make the bats come alive in the first inning,” said Elliott.
Both team and coach look forward to taking the field, but Coach McPherson also appreciates the parts of the game that you don't necessarily see.
“That's one of the things I love about baseball, is the character building opportunities. They're going to have to play as a team, have to encourage each other. Things are not going to go our way all of the time. We're going to have some rough moments. They're going to get an opportunity to show good character in those moments. We've been working hard on trying to build that character with this team,” said Coach McPherson
The team returns to Bossier next week, and hopefully at that time can call themselves state champions.
