The 35th annual Super Derby of Festival Racing will be held this Saturday at Harrah's Louisiana Downs. The kick off to a great week of racing gets underway today with a very unique race.

Ed Walsh, with Horseshoe Casino & Hotel, stopped by NBC 6 News Today to let everyone know all about today's race, Harrah’s Louisiana Downs annual Wiener Dog Races.  The races begin at noon on the track.  The Wiener Dogs will race to the finish line.  The winner of each heat will then compete for all of the doggie biscuits in our final race of the day.  You can bet on your favorite Wiener Dog.  It costs just $1.  If your dog wins, you get a Wiener Dog Race T-shirt.  All of the proceeds raised from the races go to Robinson’s Rescue.  There is also a free kid friendly area with bounce houses and more.
Then on Saturday, September 6th, it’s Super Derby Day.  Post time will be at noon on this day only.  The best party of the day is in the Sky Room watching all of the races.  There is the Super Derby in the Sky Buffet offered that Saturday.  To make your reservations call (318) 742-5555.

There is a free kid friendly area with bounce houses and more.  Between the races, the annual Celebrity All You Can Eat Doughnut contest takes place.  This year we’ve lined up TV and radio personalities to compete.
Duck Dynasty’s Uncle Si will be taking part in all of the Super Derby Day festivities.  Uncle Si will actually try his hand at calling a race.  Listen for him on the microphone during the 7th race of the day on Saturday, September 6th.  You just never know where he’ll show up.
So join Harrah's for all of the fun events.
