Domestic violence is a cycle a local family wants to help end. An east Texas native is the latest victim of domestic violence and her family doesn't want it to happen again.

A vigil was held Wednesday night for Lahomer Anderson. Dallas Police believe she was shot and killed by her boyfriend in Dallas Monday.

Lahomer’s sister believes this is another case of domestic violence.

“This didn't have to happen, it didn't have to happen to her.”

Family and friends signed a petition at Wednesday’s prayer vigil in hopes that laws will be strengthened in Texas to protect victims. They hope the petition will force lawmakers to create safe havens across the State of Texas to protect victims of domestic violence.

Brandon Hughes is behind bars right now in connection with Lahomer's murder
