Marquel Sennet joined the NBC 6 News team in July 2010. Before moving to the ArkLaTex Marquel was weekend anchor/reporter at KBTV in her hometown of Beaumont, Texas.
In Beaumont she interviewed President George H.W. Bush, while reporting on the recovery along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Ike. One of her most memorable interviews was with basketball great Shaquille O’Neal.
Marquel first realized her passion for news while in her high school’s video broadcasting class. She graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism with minors in history and political science. While at UNT she had the opportunity to report, produce and anchor for NTTV Nightly News.
Marquel was raised in The Lone Star State, but her family tree has strong roots in the Bayou state. She’s happy to call Louisiana her new home, because of the great food and even better people.
Marquel is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists. She’s currently pursuing a Masters Degree in History at Grambling State University. She’s also on the Community Relations Council for the Shreveport Job Corps Center.
In her spare time Marquel enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with her family.
