The Shreveport branch of the NAACP comes together to recognize the organization's 105th anniversary.

The actual anniversary is on Tuesday, but an early celebration was held at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church Sunday afternoon.

The local chapter also designated today as NAACP Emphasis Sunday where local churches donated $105 and registered new members.

Chapter President Lloyd Thompson says he wants the community to know the organization is still fighting.

"If you're riding the bus, we fought for riding the bus; if you drive the bus, we fought for you driving the bus,” says Thompson. “So, it's so many things we did to make a difference, so we hope that we can continue to do that through the NAACP."
The chapter is putting donations towards upcoming voter registration drives.
