Homecoming excitement brings out the loudest, and the craziest school spirit at North DeSoto High School.
"Everybody getting together and making the most school spirit you can so you can have really good energy going into Friday night's game," said Gunner Curtis, football player.
Our week four winner of the NBC 6 Spirit Stick shows us what being a Griffin is all about.
"So great! We have such a great family and we have so much school spirit and so much pride," said Darby Smith, Homecoming Queen.
But, what exactly is a "Griffin"? Football player and drama club member, Curtis explains.
"A Griffin is a mix between an eagle and a lion. Head of an eagle and a body a lion. A mythical creature – Most powerful among all creatures," said Curtis.
Our NBC 6 Morning Crew could be celebrating Homecoming with your school if you're the next Spirit Stick winner.
Principal Bart Weaver has been on the job for nine years. He's on a mission to create a bright future for every student.
"Everything a small town has, but everything that a large school has. So we have bio med, we have pre-engineering, we have AP and duel enrollment - to get them the best education and prepare them for college," said Weaver.
He couldn't do it without the community backing him up.
"They buy into our mission and what we're trying to do here," said Weaver.
Smith describes the legacy of what it means to be a North DeSoto Griffin.
"Just means to have pride in your school and players and be the best student you can be," said Smith.
Remember, if you want to be a future spirit stick winner, show your best school spirit during your football game, and like our NBC 6 Spirit Stick Facebook Page, and vote for your favorite school.
