Volunteers Gear Up for ``Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport''
More than 1,000 volunteers are geared up for the City of Shreveport's 22nd annual ``Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport Plus''
Coordinated by the city's Department of Community Development, the program is a daylong campaign to paint the homes of elderly and/or disabled citizens with low-to-moderate incomes. Qualified homeowners received a fresh coat of paint to their homes as well as smoke alarms and other cosmetic services.
The 70 homes scheduled for service Saturday are scattered throughout the city. Volunteer teams will be comprised of city departments, churches, non-profit organizations and other groups such as Barksdale Air Force Base and Capital One Bank.
This edition of Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport Plus includes an initiative called ``Home is Where the Heart Is,'' where local sports figures lend their efforts to the program.
