The Louisiana Legislature declared it 'Purple Heart Recognition Day.'

The Caddo Commission Veterans Affairs Committee made the announcement Monday morning.

Each year, on August 7th, Louisianans will celebrate the holiday and take a moment to honor those who've received the Purple Heart medal.

"We will always do all that we can in Caddo Parish, Bossier Parish, Bossier City and the City of Shreveport to honor and recognize our Veterans and our military," said Commission Chair, Kenneth R. Epperson.

On Thursday, August 7th, 2014, about 200 Purple Heart Recipients and/or their families have been invited to the Caddo Parish Juvenile Justice Department to celebrate the first-ever 'Purple Heart Recognition Day.'

The ceremony starts at 6pm, the public is invited to attend.
