A man is dead in Bossier City, after being shot by officers.

Mark Natale, Public Information Officer with Bossier City Police, says officers came to the Payless ShoeSource on Airline Drive, after a silent alarm went off.  Officers then saw a man, who took off running across the parking lot.

Natale says at some point, the man turned and pointed a weapon at officers, then "shots were fired." It's unclear what kind of weapon the man had.

"I did not see anything, but evidently it happened right next to my car,” says Lee Perkins, who drove in the shopping center right before the shooting. “I drove as fast as I could, you know, through the shopping center to get away from whatever happened. And the police were here less than 30 seconds. It was amazing how quickly they got here and converged on the scene."

No word on how many shots were fired or how many officers were involved. At this time, Natale says he's hesitant to classify this as an "officer-involved shooting," until more details are revealed.

"And of course, due to officers being here at the scene, an extensive internal investigation will be conducted as well, to see exactly what transpired, depending on what detectives find tonight," says Natale.

The man, whose name has not been released yet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
