Shreveport Police are investigating a Tuesday evening crash in east Shreveport that seriously injured a man.

Just before 9:45pm, Shreveport Police officers were conducting a traffic stop on Creswell Avenue near wilkinson Street after seeing the driver of a dark colored Mercury Mountaineer commit a traffic violation.

Officers turned on their emergency lights to signal to the driver to pull over.

Officers were able to get the vehicle's driver to pull to a stop, but as they exited their patrol car, the SUV's driver reportedly sped off, heading southbound on Creswell Avenue towards Kings Highway at a high rate of speed.

As the fleeing driver approached the intersection of Kings Highway at Creswell Avenue, he lost control of the vehicle, spun and struck a utility pole.

It's believed a man located on the ground near the crash site was an occupant inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The man whose identity is currently unknown, was taken to University Health Center with serious injuries.

It's believed a second occupant may have fled on foot from the wrecked vehicle, which came to rest just blocks from the initial location of the traffic stop.

Witnesses described seeing a male subject in dark clothing running from the scene on foot, but no additional occupants in the crash have been identified.

Shreveport Police Crash Investigators were dispatched to the scene of the accident and have launched an investigation into the incident.
