Power was restored to all but 165 of the 4,661 SWEPCO customers who were without electricity after a falling tree broke a utility pole in southeast Shreveport
The incident happened at 12:32 this afternoon, according to AEP SWEPCO spokesman Scott McCloud, and by 2 p.m., power was restored to most customers.
McCloud said the tree was at Pierremont and Gilbert, and a 69,000 volt line was disabled, which took out power from I-49 near Hollywood Avenue all the way to Youree Drive. Victor Maniero, spokesman for Caddo Parish Schools, said schools that went dark included A.C. Steere, Fairfield Elementary, Broadmoor Middle School and Captain Shreve High School.
Cpl. Marcus Hines, public information officer for Shreveport Police, said police officers were immediately dispatched to areas without power to direct traffic at busy intersections until power was restored
McCloud said crews continue to work to restore power to the remaining 165 customers, who are located in the immediate vicinity of the accident.
