A local school celebrates Read Across America in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Students in Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grades recognized Dr. Seuss and celebrated the fun and value of reading.

Summer Grove Elementary partnered with the Caddo Parish Talented Arts Drama Center to read and perform some of the most popular Dr. Seuss stories for elementary students.

"Many students have never had the opportunity to see live theater, and our students will experience the performers acting out the story of a book," said Librarian, Vicki Singer. "The drama students directed by SHaw Dion involve the audience with singing and dancing, and they're bringing one of the arts that children need to experience to life in our school."

Summer Grove Elementary is one of many schools across the country that celebrated Read Across America.

More than 45 million readers of all ages are expected to pick up a book and read on this day.
