Staff at Southern University at Shreveport celebrate.

On Thursday, the school received a check for $866,342.33.

It was presented to the school by the Louisiana Workforce Commission to provide training for Calumet GP LLC of Shreveport.

Calumet was awarded the money in training funds under its Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP) to assist in developing the existing skills of their employees for the purpose of increasing employee productivity and company growth.

Calumet chose SUSLA as its training provider.

The program is funded by a portion of unemployment insurance tax contributions earmarked for customized training.

The IWTP was created in 1997 by the Legislature to help Louisiana businesses train their existing workers.

"It gave me confidence to the fact that we know what we're doing, we do it well, and indeed for Calumet, we're a good partner," said SUSLA Chancellor, Ray Belton.

This is the second time the school has received this grant.
