UPDATE: Authorities confirm that the 6 year-old boy has died from his injuries.

The accident happened around 4:00 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Winter Garden.

"We know that the child completely exited the bus, before he was struck, but it's unclear at this point what he was doing when the accident happened," says Cpl. Marcus Hines, Public Information Officer with Shreveport Police Department.

One neighbor tells NBC 6 she saw the female bus driver crying and visibly shaken after the accident.

"Well, naturally the bus driver is very emotional at this point considering the circumstances,” says Cpl. Hines. “The bus driver has been detained, for questioning and also for standard procedure in accidents involving serious injury.”

Investigators say it's too early in the investigation to tell if the bus driver will face charges for the accident.

Shreveport Police are on the scene of school bus accident in north Shreveport.

Police say a child was hit by the school bus Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Winter Garden and Addison.  The child was transported to University Health but the extent of injuries is unknown at this time.

We have a crew on the way to the scene.  Stay tuned to NBC 6 at 5, 6 & 10 and and online at www.arklatexhomepage.com for the latest on this developing story.
