11 year old Anna Makey admits when she first joined the Chirstus Louisiana Aquatics team her technique needed work.
"I've improved all of my times since I've been here."
It's common theme for a group that's recently sent 24 swimmers to states... And one making the all-state team.
"Last year i didn't make it... I wanted to work even harder. This year I was able to make it and I'm happy with how I did."
Former US national swimmer Maureen Ratliff instructs the swimmers. But beyond strokes and times, there are larger lessons at play.
"dDiscipline, self-confidence. To get up, stand up by yourself when whistle goes off is a life-long lessons."
And while working towards those individual goals, the kids learn what it means to be a team.
"The 18 year old boys cheering for the 7 year old girl in her first 25 fly... That's what makes it fun."
"We're like one big family. We're just very close and friends with each other."
