A local no kill animal shelter is relying on the community's support to keep its doors open. A donor recently gave $1,000 to the Human Society of Northwest Louisiana.

Last month the non-profit announced it was in jeopardy of closing its doors. The shelter couldn't cover all of its veterinarian bills.

Courtney Wingate says, “It’s very important that we keep receiving these donations. If we do not we're going to have to start turning away dogs, we'll have to find other places for dogs to go and then we'll have to shut our doors."

The shelter is still in need of bleach, dog food and monetary donations.
