An early morning fire forces a woman from a Shreveport home in 800 block of Boulevard Street.

According to Shreveport Fire spokesman Scott Wolverton, fire broke out in two homes located across the street from each other just after 7:00 a.m.

At one point 16 units were called to the fires before being extinguished.

Wolverton says the first fire broke out at 936 Boulevard Street when an electrical pole pulled away from the vacant property. An electrical surge sparked the initial flames.

The electricity traveled underground and across the street where it sparked a second blaze at 831 Boulevard Street. A woman was inside the home at the time. She told NBC 6 News crews at the scene she heard a popping and crackling noise prior to smelling smoke.

She made it out safely. The home suffered mostly smoke damage, according to Wolverton.

SWEPCO crews had to be called to the scene to cut off electricity to both properties before fire fighters could put out the flames.
