A student at Airline High School has been chosen to receive the Louisiana Legislative Tulane Scholarship for District 8.

The scholarship will provide Valedictorian Sarah Lawhorne full tuition to attend college in Fall 2014.

Lawhorne's impressive academic accomplishments and community service led to her being selected for this prestigious scholarship.
Not only did she graduate with a 4.0 GPA from Airline High School in Bossier, but she also served as President of the Student Council; was a delegate at Girls State and elected Treasurer by her peers; is a member of the National Honor Society; participated in the Chamber of Commerce Bossier Youth Leadership program and was actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Volunteerism is also a vital part of what made Lawhorne stand out for the legislative scholarship. She has volunteered at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, Garden Court Rehabilitation Center, tutored at Plantation Park Elementary and assisted in the children's area at the Red River Revel.

District 8 State Representative Jeff Thompson made the formal scholarship presentation to Lawhorne.  Rep. Thompson said, "Having the privilege of providing the opportunity for such an outstanding Bossier Parish student to attend Tulane University and help achieve her goals is very rewarding.  Sarah's accomplishments in the classroom, her devotion to serving others and her optimistic spirit and love of this state and nation make her the perfect recipient of this recognition and opportunity."

Lawhorne plans to attend Tulane University in New Orleans and major in Business Finance and Accounting.
