Jindal signs two pro-life bills into law

Today, Governor Jindal signed two bills into law that will  The two pieces of legislation, HB 305 by Rep. Frank Hoffmann  and HB 388 by Rep. Katrina Jackson.

The governor signed the bills into law at First Baptist Church in West Monroe, as both bills were authored by representatives of that area. Rep. Katrina Jackson, a Democrat who represents District 16, which covers part of Ouachita an Morehouse Parishes; and Rep. Frank Hoffman, a Republican who represents District 15, which also is part of Ouachita Parish.

Jackson's bill retains the current legislation already on the books, but now will require physicians performing abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the facility at which the abortion is performed. In addition, it redefines an "outpatient abortion facility" as any outpatient facility other than a hospital or surgical center, where any second trimester or five or more first trimester abortions are performed within a year The previous definition was the same number per month

House Bill 388 was co-authored by several legislators across the state including Northwest Louisiana delegation Reps. Henry Burns, Roy Burrell, Thomas Carmody, Gene Reynolds, Alan Seabaugh, Jeff Thompson and Patrick Williams.

House Bill 305 makes it illegal for anyone or organization that performs abortions to deliver any instruction or program on any health topic, "including, but not limited to, human sexuality or family planning" at any school that receives state funding. This law also makes it illegal for any organization, individual or other entity that has a legal relationship with an abortion provider. 
Northwest Louisiana representatives signing on as co-authors of Hoffman's bill are state Reps Henry Burns, Thomas Carmody, Gene Reynolds and Alan Seabaugh.
