Kirschvink said, "As a parent of two Caddo students and the wife of a Caddo teacher, I see first-hand the opportunities and challenges facing our schools each and every day,Rather than sit back and passively voice concern about the issues, I've made the choice to roll up my sleeves and become a part of the solution."
Kirschvink plans to utilize her business acumen and vast communications experience to ensure that the school district delivers the best education possible for the families it serves.
Kirschvink said, "We must not lose sight of what's important. The focus of the school board should not be political. It should be on the classroom. I will always make it my duty to focus on what is in the best interest of our students and teachers."
Kirschvink is no stranger to giving of her time for others. Her candidacy comes on the heels of the tremendous work she has done for the Shreveport-area community, which earned her the 2012 Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Athena award. Kirschvink's volunteer activities include:
· Junior Coordinator, Shreveport Chamber Leadership Program
· Vice President, Caddo Parish Crimestoppers
· Secretary, Volunteers for Youth Justice
· Past Governor, Quota International District 21
· Publicity Chair, Caddo Middle Magnet Parent Teacher Student Association
· Communications Chair, Grace Community United Methodist Church
Kirschvink is currently Senior Communications Consultant for SWEPCO. She was formerly the spokesperson and Public Information Officer for the Shreveport Police Department. Kirschvink lives in Shreveport with her husband, Mike, and two sons - Cameron, a seventh grader at Caddo Middle Magnet, and Kevin, a fifth grader at Summerfield Elementary. Mike is a 5th grade Caddo Parish teacher at Barret Paideia Academy in central Shreveport.
