Miss Louisiana prepares for Miss America competition

Miss Louisiana 2014 Lacey Sanchez is preparing for her Monday departure for Miss America competition. She will be leaving the Monroe Airport Sunday afternoon for in hopes of becoming the first Miss Louisiana to be crowned Miss America.


She was selected from 35 young women in the 51st Annual Miss Louisiana Pageant in June in Monroe. Lacey is graduate of LSU and former member of the track team where she was one of the top pole vaulters in the history of the LSU Lady Tiger program. 


Sanchez was an NCAA Championship Qualifier her senior year and appeared at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. She tied for eighth place in the pole vault for her top career SEC finish in her final appearance at the SEC Indoor Champtionships in 2013.


Miss Louisiana is the official preliminary to the Miss America pageant, the largest scholarship organization for women in the world.  Preliminary competition in Atlantic City begins Monday, Sept. 8, 2014
