Musicians inducted into Hall of Master Folk Artist

Several musicians were honored over the weekend with induction into the Louisiana Folklife Center's Hall of Master Folk Artists.

The organization recognizes contributions to the preservation of Louisiana's cultural traditions. 

The induction took place Saturday during the 35th annual Natchitoches-Northwestern State University Folk Festival. 

State Rep. Kenny Cox made presentations to honorees Jeffery Broussard of Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys, Al Ferrier, who also served as Honorary Chair of the Festival, Jo-El Sonnier and Dr. Shane Rasmussen, director of the Louisiana Folklife Center.

Dewey Balfa was posthumously inducted into the Louisiana Folklife Center's Hall of Master Folk Artists.  His daughter, Christine Balfa, accepted the plaque on his behalf after the main stage performance of her band, Bonsoir, Catin.
