Natchitoches teen dies after being punched at school

A high school student who was involved in a fight in Natchitoches Parish has passed away.

The JohnQuaries Smith,18, died from his injuries around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday afternoon at University Health Medical Center in Shreveport.

Smith, a student at Central High School, was airlifted to the hospital Monday after he was found lying on the ground not responding.

The 16-year-old who was arrested and charged with Second Degree Battery has been brought back to Natchitoches from the the Ware Detention Center in Coushatta so that charges can be upgraded to Manslaughter. 

The decision to charge the suspect as an adult will be made by the Natchitoches Parish District Attorney’s office in the near future.
