July 11 is National Gay Blood Drive Day. LifeShare Blood Center participated. The FDA prohibits gay men from donating blood. On this day, across the country, gay men host a blood drive, and find others to donate blood in their honor.
“I came out because I think you know love is love and equality should be celebrated. I think that supporting the LGBT rights is a very important thing today,” said Michael Walker.
The event was also to bring about awareness of the FDA rule, in hopes that it’ll one day change.
At least 25 people donated blood during the event.
