Shreveport Police have arrested a suspect accused of stealing more than $50,000 worth of jewelry from a  local business on last week.

Richard Riley Jr., 57, was taken into custody this afternoon by Shreveport Police, following the investigation of a jewelry heist in the Pierremont area.

Shreveport Police were called to the Louisiana Coin Exchange located in the 5800 block of Line Avenue relative to a theft from the business on June 4.  Upon officers’ arrival, contact was made with store employees who advised two men entered the business acting as if they were interested in making a purchase.

As the men browsed throughout the store, one of the men distracted the clerk, while the other removed items from one of the store's display cases, concealing them on his person.  After making the heist, the men left the store making off with thousands of dollars in merchandise.

Since the theft, investigators have released video footage from the business, and thanks to viewer feedback, have been able to arrest Riley, who was booked into the Shreveport City Jail charged with a single count of Felony Theft.

Authorities are still seeking to identify the second man observed in the surveillance video. The suspect is seen wearing the blue colored short sleeved polo-style shirt.
