U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, announced Wednesday a $200,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Program to support the Webster Parish Fire District in Minden.

The grant awarded will provide the fire department with critical equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources vital to protecting the public and personnel from hazards during a fire.

Sen. Landrieu secured this funding as the author of the bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security for FY14.

Sen. Landrieu said, "Firefighters risk their lives every day to protect our friends, families and neighbors. During fires and emergencies, they deserve to have the best equipment to get the job done.  The quality of their response equipment can literally mean the difference between life or death. This grant will ensure firefighters in Webster Parish will have the tools and training they need to keep their community safe."
