Dozens of police officers are called in after a woman fires shots at a local park. The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Sunday at Hamel’s Memorial Park near the Clyde Fant Parkway and the Jimmie Davis Bridge.

The parkway was closed from the bridge to Island Park for about an hour.

According to Shreveport Police, the woman fired shots, and then turned the gun on herself.

"We don’t have any information to suggest anyone else was in harms’ way or was threatened,” said Cpl. Marcus Hines.  “Earlier someone said there was a hostage situation. That info was not accurate. There was no one taken hostage, just a woman apparently threatening to harm herself.”

The woman surrendered to police 8:20 p.m., accompanied by two people. She was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. No one was injured during the ordeal.
