Shreveport Police detectives have arrested a local man they believe molested a 14 year old girl over a two year period.

Fredrick L. Covington surrendered to authorities Friday morning at Shreveport Police Headquarters.

In early July, SPD patrol officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of Burlingame Boulevard relative to a sexual assault.  When they arrived, officers contacted the father of the victim who advised that his daughter reported to him that she had been sexually assaulted by a family friend. Patrol officers began the investigation and notified detectives.

SPD’s sex crimes detectives were assigned to the case and subsequently interviewed the victim and her father. From them, they learned 48-year-old Covington had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim at a his residence.

Based on information gathered during an ongoing investigation, authorities procured an arrest warrant for Covington.  After Covington was interviewed by investigators, he was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of molestation of a juvenile.
