The memorial scholarship fund now stands at $27,350.
The fallen officer's widow Stephanie Sprague said, "The community came together to support not only our family, but also the field of law enforcement. This scholarship, established in memory of Jason and his sacrifice, will help students enter the field of criminal justice and earn higher education credentials to advance in their careers. We are overwhelmed and grateful for the contributions made toward the advancement of this scholarship fund."
The Texarkana College Foundation will manage the funds and award scholarships from the interest earned on the endowment.
Texarkana College Foundation Director Katie Andrus said, "By reaching endowed status, this scholarship will be a permanent source of funding for students interested in pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Texarkana College. This is one of TC's most popular programs of study, and this investment in the future of our students will go a long way to help those in need of financial support. We could not be more grateful to the Sprague family and the community for establishing the memorial fund at Texarkana College."
Sprague also noted that Sept. 20 will be National Thank a Police Officer Day. She hopes that the community will rally in support of all police officers who sacrifice their safety every day to ensure a more secure community for us all.
