Wife killer pleads guilty to lesser charge, avoids 2nd degree murder trial

The Bossier man accused of killing his wife, and then trying to kill himself, this morning plead guilty to manslaughter in Bossier Parish District Court.

Robert Bond was charged with 2nd degree murder in the November 2013 death of his wife, Ann Bond, after leaving her charred remains in Webster Parish and absconding to Mississippi.

Law enforcement tracked Bond and found him around midnight Nov. 15 in his truck near a rest stop in Gautier, Miss. When officers approached, Bond pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head.

Bond was taken to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, Miss. where he was in the intensive care unit recovering from his head wounds for almost a month before being extradited to Louisiana.

Formal sentencing will be held on July 22
