"He would talk to you the whole football game," Bachman said. "Not only would he talk to you, he'd back it up."
McKnight's still backing it up. The former John Curtis standout is now a defensive back for Arizona, practicing on Bachman's football field at Calvary before the Advocare V100 Bowl on New Year's Eve.
"I feel very at home," McKnight said. "Just glad to come back so my family can come see me play."
McKnight played against Bachman's Evangel Christian Academy team in the 2009 LA state championship game. Bachman remembers McKnight specifically, because he beat former Southern University safety Virgil Williams on a pass play that nearly costs him the title.
"It was late in the ballgame, he had ran an out route on our corner Virgil Williams," Bachman said. "He caught it and took it to the house and it gave them a chance to win the game. Not many people did that to Virgil. It was a great play by him. It's just what great football players do."
"I remeber back in high school," McKnight said. "We had some pretty good times, we played against some great teams here in Louisiana."
Evangel won the game and the state championship, but Williams left a mark on Bachman.
"I was yelling, yea we got em! He gave me those evil eyes and let me know he was a long ways from being finished. He's just a great football player."
