"We had a good spring and a good offseason, everybody is just excited to get started,” said C. E. Byrd head coach Mike Suggs.
Stadium gates have finally opened, and high school teams across the ArkLaTex have officially started practice. Byrd one of the teams itching to get started, all the preparation finally put into play.
“Oh yeah, it’s always hectic leading up to this and getting equipment and paperwork done and all that. To finally get out on the field is what we’ve all been waiting on,” said Suggs.
Just like most teams Byrd has a lot of spots to fill.
“We lost a lot of starters off last years team,” said Suggs.
The might have lost a group of seniors, but thankfully still have some vets on the team.
“We had a really good group of seniors last year, but we’ve got another good group of seniors this year and we are fortunate enough we’ve got a lot of guys experience last year during the season,” said Suggs.
And their goals are simple….
“We want to get better and better every week and if we can do that there’s no telling what might happen at the end. We just want to continue to work hard and get better each week,” said Suggs.
Byrd opens against Zachery on September fifth.
