Carthage Bulldogs 23 teams in 23 days

Keontay Ingram: Win a state championship.

Is that the goal every year at Carthage?

Keontay Ingram: Yes sir most definitely.

In 2016 the Carthage Bulldogs won the state championship for the 5th time since head coach Scott Surratt arrived on campus. With state championships come high expectations and with those high expectations comes pressure to win another one.

Scott Surratt: It's a lot of pressure around here because the fans expect us to do well and the state expects us to do well, as coaches we expect to do well and the players expect to do well.

Keontay Ingram: Just putting on the C every Friday holds a lot of pressure. The fans have a lot of expectations so you have to carry that on your shoulders. Every game you come out here on Friday night you have to play with a chip on your shoulder.

The Bulldogs have a new face under center in junior Gunner Capps but they do have several weapons back on offense. This includes a pair of receivers who fell just short of 1,000 yards last year in Deqavius Bowens and DeWaylon Ingram. Oh and don't forget the number-1 running back in the state of Texas in UT commit Keontay Ingram

Scott Surratt: He's definitely going to get his touches that's no doubt. Somebody asked me the other day how we're going to get it to him. It's a tailback we can get the ball to him so. I'm glad he's on our side.

Surratt says the offense will have to carry the defense a little early on but expects the Bulldogs to be good on both sides of the football but will it be enough for state championship number 6.

We'll find out Friday December 22nd at AT&T Stadium.
