LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Centenary’s Jonathan Blount has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in the Gents’ three wins over the week. Blount, who has garnered the award in back-to-back weeks, is a three-time honoree of the award from the conference office.
Blount averaged 23 points in Centenary’s three games this week including tying his career-high of 31 points in a 75-57 win over the SCAC’s top-ranked Trinity University. The Shreveport, La., native shot 55.6 percent from the field along with a 45.5 clip from behind the arc. Blount was also 24 for 25 from the charity stripe for the week. For the week, Blount also dished out a total of nine assists, recorded nine rebounds and blocked a shot in 96 minutes of action.
The senior has propelled the Gents’ six-game win streak and move the squad to within a game of Trinity in the conference standings. Blount has scored in double-digits in all 42 games in the SCAC and has a double figure scoring streak of 50 games dating back to his sophomore season.
Blount joins Colorado College’s Ryan Milne as the only three time recipient of the conference’s weekly honor this season.
Centenary returns to action on Friday, Feb. 14 as the Gents host the University of Dallas. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
