Cowboys unveil 2014 schedule
The NFL announced the 2014 schedule Wednesday, and at least six national television appearances highlight the Dallas Cowboys upcoming season. The Cowboys schedule currently features five games that are going to be broadcast nationally in primetime, including two from AT&T Stadium. Dallas will play its first International Series game, taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London, England. The Cowboys also face five different teams that qualified for the 2013 playoffs (Indianapolis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle).
In addition to the two primetime games at AT&T Stadium on NBC and ESPN, and the club’s annual Thanksgiving Day national appearance, the Cowboys will make three more national appearances, two on NBC’s Sunday Night Football and one on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. Dallas’ appearance on Monday night this season will be the club’s 76th time (second most in NFL history behind Miami’s 80). No NFL team has won more MNF games than Dallas’ 43.
The 2014 regular season opens on Sept. 7 when the Cowboys host the San Francisco 49ers. This season is the second straight in which the club will open at home. The last time the Cowboys opened a season at home in back-to-back seasons was 2000-01. It is also just the sixth time since 2000 that Dallas will have a season-opening home bout. Dallas hits the road the next two weeks for games in Tennessee and St. Louis. The Cowboys close September with a Sunday night game against New Orleans on NBC.
Dallas opens October playing host to intrastate rival Houston on Oct. 5. The Cowboys then travel to play the Super Bowl XLVIII champion Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 12. Dallas returns home for a three-game stretch while also opening division play, first taking on the N.Y. Giants on Oct. 19, followed by Washington on ESPN’s Monday Night Football on Oct. 27. The Cowboys close their homestand with a contest against Arizona on Nov. 2.
November continues with a trip across the Atlantic Ocean to play the Jacksonville Jaguars at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 9 with a noon (CT) start. The Cowboys return stateside into their bye week (Nov. 16). Coming out of the break, Dallas will make a trip back east to take on the N.Y. Giants on Sunday night Nov. 23 on NBC. The Cowboys then have a short turnaround with their annual Thanksgiving Day game, playing the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 27 - the first time Dallas and Philadelphia will celebrate the holiday together since the 1989 season and just the second time overall.
The final month of the season starts a little earlier than normal as the Cowboys play at Chicago on the NFL Network’s Thursday Night card on Dec. 4 before taking a 10-day break to travel to the City of Brotherly Love to face the Eagles on the club’s final scheduled Sunday night game (Dec. 14). Dallas hosts Indianapolis on Dec. 21 before closing out the regular season at Washington on Dec. 28. This season will mark the 10th time Dallas will finish up the regular season against the Redskins.
