MARSHALL, Texas – Hosting their first-ever NCAA Division III Super Regional, East Texas Baptist University will play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a best of three game series on Friday and Saturday. The NCAA Division III Tournament moved to the super regional format this season going away from five and six team regional tournaments.
ETBU will play their first game on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Taylor Field and then play game two on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The third game, if needed, will be played 30 minutes following the end of first game on Saturday. The winner of this super regional will advance on to the NCAA Division III National Championship series in Tyler, Texas, with the seven other super regional champions.
Defeating Texas Lutheran, 5-1, in the Tyler Regional Championship, ETBU has now won two regional championships under Janae Shirley. ETBU came out of the loser’s bracket in 2010 and went on to win the national championship. ETBU has met Claremont-Mudd-Scripps three times in the NCAA Tournament and holds a 2-1 advantage vs. the Athenas who made the super regional by winning the California regional over the Redlands.
The teams have met in 2009 (ETBU 9, CMS 0), 2011 (CMS 6, ETBU 1), and 2013 (ETBU 3, CMS 0).
