Airline High comes off a 5 and 6 record, they lost in the first round of the playoffs, but this is a new year.

"A lot of it is the same guys coming back. I think we're bigger, faster, than we were last year. We're not going to go into that first week wide eyed like we did last year," said Head Coach Bo Meeks.

With a vast majority of the team returning experience brings symmetry.

"We like to be balanced. We like to run and throw because we feel like in the course of the year somebody is going to take away what you do if you're one dimensional. We want to make the defense defend the entire field," said Coach Meeks.

Senior defensive tackle Charlie Matthews was given all state honors as a junior, he'd like to be an all American this year, but to him that's not the most important thing.

"It's more about the team this year. If I become an all American, I become an all American, I'd rather win honestly," said Charlie Matthews.

Two of the teams in Airlines district fought for a state title this year, and The Vikings understands their schedule is tough.

"We know the quality of the district we're in. The other five teams are outstanding," said Coach Meeks.

Some of the players have a couple of the district teams highlighted on their schedule.

"I want to beat Byrd. Really, our whole schedule, we have a great schedule to play all the teams are good, great competition. I know all of us just can't wait to get out there and get after it," said senior offensive guard Caleb Thomas.

And because of the strength of their schedule, Airline feels they're flying a little under the radar.

"Nobody knows what we have. We're kind of underdogs, you could say, and we're ready to go out and show people what we have this year. Start a tradition here, that's what it's all about," said Thomas.

"We're a team. We play together as one team, one heartbeat," said Matthews.

"It's all or nothing," said Thomas.

Airline has a few games to gain momentum before heading into their first district game against Byrd.
