The Pilots will essentially play a road game during the first round of the tournament after drawing the the HAAC Conference Champion Mid-America Nazarene Pioneers. Mid-Am Nazarene is located just 30 minutes outside the tournament site in Kansas City, MO.
LSUS tips off on Thursday, Mar. 20th at 6:15pm.
"Making our 10th consecutive appearance in the National Tournament is very special," said Coach Blankenship who is just in his second year as the Pilots head coach. "There have been many great LSUS teams to play in Kansas City and we are extremely proud to carry on that tradition this year."
LSUS (21-8) is just one of three teams in this year's field that will be making at least their 10th consecutive trip to Kansas City joining Georgetown and Oklahoma Baptist. This year's first round games will be played on Wednesday March 19 and Thursday March 20.
The Pilots are 8-9 in the previous 10 national tournaments but most teams are not as lucky as the Pilots to have had the opportunity to play in so many national tournaments, "Over the past years, LSUS has won several games at the national tournament and I think that fact alone will help give this year's team some confidence in knowing what it takes to win in K. C.," said Coach Blankenship.
Last year the Pilots went on an incredible run at the Municipal Auditorium as they made the school's first ever appearance in the Fab Four. Their Cinderella run began with a 91-87 win over the 8th seed Pikeville and then upsetting the 9th seed Evangel 77-70 in the Sweet Sixteen matchup. They continued their magical run taking down the unbeaten and no. 1 seed Columbia 79-78 but the clock finally struck midnight as the Pilots lost on a last second long three point bucket falling to the no. 13 seed Georgetown 90-88 who went on to win the National Championship.
