Pilots Split Twin Bill with No. 18 Texas Wesleyan

SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball team split Tuesday's double header with the no. 18 Texas Wesleyan Rams at Pilot Field in non-conference action. The Pilots won the first game 6-3 but the Rams battled their way back from an 8-0 deficit to take game two 13-10 snapping the Pilots four-game winning streak. The Pilots are now 16-11 on the season while the Rams improve to 14-7.

GAME ONE (W, 6-3)

Kevin VanAsselberg (SR/Alexandria, Louisiana) went 2-for-3 with a run batted in while Beaux Guilbeau (JR/Carthage, Texas) was 2-for-4.

Carlos Andujar (JR/Santo Domingo, Dominican Repub) collected two hits in four trips with an RBI while Chase Spatafora (SO/Farmerville, Louisiana) went 2-for-2.

Trace Francis (SO/Minden, Louisiana) (2-0) picked up the win with five solid innings allowing four hits, two earned runs and had one strikeout.

Pat Day (SR/Tyler, Texas) picked up his fourth save of the season as he worked the last two innings with two strikeouts.

The Pilots took the early lead 2-1 as Andujar's single brought in Brenden Meade (SR/Shreveport, Louisiana) to give the home squad the one-run advantage.

LSUS added single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings as VanAsselberg drove in the run in the 4th to give the Pilots a 4-2 lead.

Two runs were later added in the 6th as Caleb Lasseigne (JR/Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) drove in a run with a single and another run came in on a bases loaded walk.

GAME TWO (L, 13-10)
Things could not have started any better for the Pilots as they plated eight runs in the bottom of the 1st highlighted by a Jordan Trahan (JR/Dayton, Texas) three-run homer and a grand slam from VanAsselberg.

Meade hit a solo-homer in the 4th and the Pilots added another run in the bottom of the 7th but it was too little too late after Texas Wesleyan chipped away all game to take the lead in the top of the 7th with four runs coming across.

The Rams were held scoreless in the 1st inning but they rallied to score three in the 2nd, two in the 3rd, one in the 4th, two in the 5th, one in the 6th and four in the 7th.
