SHREVEPORT, La. - The no. 17 LSU Shreveport Pilots men's basketball team's 11th straight win did not come easy but it did come on Saturday night in front of a packed house at The Dock in Red River Athletic Conference play as they got past the visiting Southwest Mustangs 90 - 87. The Pilots finished with five scorers in double figures.
The Pilots led by as much as 18 in the first half and by 17 at the break. The visitors from Southwest were determined to pick up their second win of the season and made a charge and shot 63-percent in the second half but the Pilots held off their charge.
Brandon Davis led the way for the Pilots with a double-double performance of 26 points and 16 rebounds as he led the game in both categories. The reigning RRAC, LSWA, and NAIA Player of the Week Will Nelson netted 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Tevin Hall tossed in 16.
For the first time in a while the Pilots were outscored in the paint 50-36. LSUS committed just 14 turnovers but Southwest capitalized on most of them netting 22 points off the miscues. The Mustangs had five shooters in double figures with Brandon McKnight leading the visitors with 19 points.
The Pilots will go on the road for four consecutive games with their contest at St. Thomas next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The next game at The Dock is on Friday, February 21st, against Langston at 7:30 p.m.
