A group of Shreveport police officers are being called heroes after they rescued three small children from a house engulfed in flames.

The blaze broke out shortly after midnight at a home in the 5200 block of Kent St.

Before firefighters arrived three police officers heard the children calling out for help. They knocked out a window and stood on top each other to pull the children from the house.

All three children, who were between the ages of 2 and 6, were transported to University Health with various degrees of burns but their conditions are unknown at this time.

An adult and two other children were able to escape unharmed.

The house was totally destroyed and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The officers who showed an act of courage were Officer Zack Johnson and Sgt. Steven Plunkett and they were assisted by Officer Jeremy Johnson.
