Rodricus Crawford could have been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole, probation or suspension, but instead was sentenced to die.

In Louisiana, first degree murder must be punished by either life in prison or death.

Crawford was charged in the February 2012 death of his baby, Rodrquous Lott. According to the autopsy, the child was smothered.

The case was prosecuted by Dale Cox and Mkeisha Creal, assistant Caddo District attorneys. Defense attorney was Daryl Gold, who was assisted by Jay Florence.

Crawford will be formally sentenced on November 26th.
