Board votes for Harold Boldt to keep severance package

The City of Texarkana, Arkansas votes to keep the City Manager's severance package.
The City of Texarkana, Arkansas votes to keep the City Manager's severance package.

Mayor Wayne Smith brought it up at Monday night's board meeting.

The new resolution would have required Harold Boldt to give some of it back.

It totaled $162,000.

$79,000 was paid in full already, and starting January 1st, 2014, Boldt would receive monthly payments of $6,785 until December 2014.

The resolution brought up by the Mayor, would drop the monthly payments and would take about $25,000 from the lump sum back to the city.

Boldt could keep about $54,000 because of sick and annual leave that he had accumulated.

But with a 4-3 vote, the Board voted down the resolution.

"When four of the elected Board Members basically said we want Harold Boldt to keep that $162,000 and we still want to pay him, that's a disservice," said Mayor Wayne Smith. "But that's their choice."

He adds, "I'm looking out for what I think is best for the city and what's best for our citizens and their tax dollers. That's what I'm looking at and I will continue to do."

Boldt wont start until a contract has been written, voted on and approved by the city board.
