A local school tries to make history. It's been more than a half a century since the Byrd Yellow Jackets have won a state football title.

The team is on the path to a championship and their final destination is the Superdome. Jacket pride is truly city wide this week.

Hundreds of community members, Byrd students and graduates came out for one of the biggest pep rallies this school has ever had.

Charlie Cavell says, ”The love that the students, the faculty and staff and alumni have for this school is truly amazing."

For the “Voice of the Byrd Yellow Jackets Football Team” this game has a special meaning.

"I swore that I wouldn't go back to the dome to broadcast a game unless I was doing it for Byrd."

Now these fans are ready to take their “Jacket Pride” state wide and they're hoping for a win at the Superdome.

1,500 Byrd students have already signed up for the charter bus ride to New Orleans, that's nearly 70% of the school's student population.
